Environmental PolicyScope and Aims
Throughout its activities, McCann Homes is committed to the protection of the environment. We are aware of our responsibilities to make the best of scarce land in a sustainable environmentally and ecologically sound fashion with an overriding vision to build homes where people want to live.
This policy defines the commitments made by McCann Homes in protecting the environment and sets out the strategy for the implementation of these commitments in a robust and coherent manner. McCann Homes is committed to continual environmental improvement and will comply with all the relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Commitments- We will assess our designs using the Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM assessment tools and will aim to achieve high standards of sustainable design and construction
- We will design buildings which respect the health and wellbeing of future occupiers
- We will ensure that concerns of climate change are integrated in all our business decisions, both in our building design and in minimising the impact of our own operations
- We will minimise the use of water and other natural resources wherever feasible
- We will segregate waste products that can be recycled and ensure that all waste is disposed of in accordance with current legislation
- We will implement an environmental purchasing strategy to ensure we purchase environmentally sound products, and we will work with our suppliers and contractors to ensure the environmental impact of our activities is minimised
- We will have respect for the natural environment, ensuring that all our activities are carried out within the requirements of the Widlife and Countryside legislation
- We will ensure that no pollution substances, such as cement, muddy water, diesel or chemicals, are allowed to flow into any watercourse or drain, and we will implement an emergency spillage plan on all sites in case of emergencies.
Implementation
The Chief Executive is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Policy throughout the company's operations.
Delivering the commitments made in the Environmental Policy is the responsibility of the Commercial Director, who will implement an action plan across the company and define specific roles and responsibilities for the management of environmental impacts.
The Environmental Policy is communicated to all staff and contractors and is available to the public and interested parties.
The Managing Director will monitor the effectiveness of this policy and will review the policy on a regular basis and annually as a minimum. |
