the city

In 1967, a mile square area of North Buckinghamshire was to become one of England’s newest cities, incorporating three towns and thirteen villages, one of which gave its name to the new town. 40 years later, Milton Keynes has grown into one of the country’s most talked about and admired modern urban areas.

Milton Keynes is a city of contrasts. The original villages are nestled between exciting new residential growth and modern business developments, without losing their identity and are surrounded by many parklands, waterways, and the intricate network of pedestrian and cycle routes known as redways.

The recreational and leisure opportunities are endless: the Theatre District where many a West End production is staged at the state of the art theatre, together with a wealth of restaurants, bars and nightclubs provide for an exciting night out. The landmark dome of the Xscape with its 16 screen cinema, the country’s largest indoor ski slope, ten pin bowling and fitness centre is a must for all. With the new football stadium opening in 2007, the whole family can watch the MK Dons, and if that’s not enough there are often open air concerts at both Campbell Park and the National Bowl
