High Wycombe (previously Chepping Wycombe) is surrounded by some of the loveliest countryside in southern England. Situated in a deep valley, in the heart of the Chilterns, High Wycombe is the largest town in Buckinghamshire, just 29 miles from London. Its wide, typically Georgian High Street, is dominated at its western end by the Little Market House while opposite is the handsome arcaded Guildhall. High Wycombe is currently undergoing a massive reconstruction of the town centre including the relocation of the bus station and cinema and the uncovering of the River Wye. Adding to the existing Octagon and Chilterns shopping areas is the exciting new development named "Project Eden" (expected to open in Spring 2008) which will include: a bowling alley, housing, restaurants, bars, a civic square, and an extensive shopping centre featuring House of Fraser, M&S, Waterstones and many more well known names, making this a fashionable and exciting place to be during the day and into the night. |
Leisure and recreation amenities abound in the area, including the renowned Swan Theatre, a large leisure centre at the top of Marlow Hill (with Olympic sized swimming pool); a gliding club and two flying schools at Wycombe Air Park; and not forgetting the local football team Wycombe Wanderers and WASPS rugby football club. To the east of the town there is a wide expanse of grassland, called 'The Rye'. An artificial lake, bounded by hanging beech woods, which encompass a Nature Trail, is used for fishing and during the summer months, for boating and the yearly Asian Mela. Take your excursions further afield and enjoy walks in the surrounding hills, visits to Marlow and Maidenhead on the Thames, or the Universities of Oxford - your new apartment at Sheridan Court will be the perfect place to start.
